What is Addiction

Postby m2farzana » Tue Apr 10, 2012 10:39 am

Addiction may be defined as the continued use of a mood altering substance or behaviour despite adverse consequences. It may also be a neurological impairment leading to such behaviors. Addictions can include, but are not limited to, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, gambleing, and over eating to name a few. Classic signs of addiction can include: impaired control over substances and/or behaviours, a preoccupation with substance and/or behaviours, the continued use or behavior despite consequences, and many forms of denial.

Addiction is more than drugs abuse, alcohol abuse and over eating. Book hoarding was a problem my sister had well into her late 30s. She couldn’t go out with buying at least ten books at a time. Most people are surprised that bibliomania is an addiction.
